When developing this website the focus was to have it be a direct reflection of precisely what the Historical Diving Society USA represents. Our mission statement to preserve, study, compile, archive and disseminate information relating to the history of human underwater intervention and to promote public awareness of and participation in underwater activities, had to be at the center of what this site would reflect.
As such, it was clear that providing an array of historical learning elements and tools would be a core value to members and visitors alike. While many of these learning features are open and available to all visitors to this website, some areas are by design, reserved for HDS members who enjoy full access to such things as the full Journal of Diving History archive library, full feature documentary films and film shorts and the members only section of the online store which offers special products at member level price-point discounts.
The ultimate goal is for this site to become a one-stop repository of all information pertaining to diving history. In the future, researchers for film or literary needs may find this library of historical record an invaluable resource and be able to peruse these archives with full understanding and knowledge that the information contained within them has gone through exhaustive scrutiny and is historically accurate and reliable.
The Historical Diving Society and quarterly publication Journal of Diving History has proudly served that purpose for the entirety of the dive industry’s history since the HDS inception in 1992. That tradition continues with the documentation stored within these website pages.
